Study of the WIND

Second graders studied the wind in Studio Art and in Science class.  Artists have been intrigued by the wind for years. How can  an artist describe the wind which is an invisible force?

In what ways do you see the wind in this painting?

What techniques did this artist use to describe the wind?

What would it be like to be inside this painting?

We read the Beaufort Scale, a scale created in 1805 that measures wind speed.

We looked at the work of Dutch artist, Theo Jansen who uses the wind to move his kinetic sculptures called Strandbeests:

The following week we discussed how the wind can effect the rocks and soil.
